Senior Associates perform a range of work in development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving highly complex projects. They have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects, and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group.
I.T. Senior Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines, decision-making ability in situations related to those disciplines, and be able to serve as a resource in these areas. They may contribute to decisions on I.T. policies and technical standards.

IT Senior Associate
CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Office of Computing and Information Services (CIS) at the City University of New York (CUNY) support the IT and telecommunications needs of CUNY's 24 colleges. CIS supports enterprise IT and applications; develops new technologies that advance University's core mission; builds, upgrades and maintains the University's network; operates the University's Data Center and help desk; develops disaster recovery and business continuity plans; and leads the CUNYfirst Enterprise Resource Planning Project (ERP), which integrates 25 university systems, covering student administration, financial management, and human resources. Within CIS, the Systems, Storage, and Virtualization unit maintains and develops the service platforms for applications shared across the University.
Reporting to the Virtualization Manager, under general supervisory direction, with scope for the exercise of independent judgment, the Senior VMware Administrator is self-motivated, hands-on, and administers the resources of the Systems, Storage, and Virtualization team within CIS. The successful candidate will provide a robust environment for highly visible enterprise applications deployed on VMware based systems. This position will support challenging projects that include planning and administering complex systems and services. This role will also support the maintenance, administration, security and upgrading of computer systems, servers and other systems infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Conducts the installation and configuration of ESXi, HA and DRS Clusters, Virtual Center and troubleshooting on HA, DRS, VMotion etc. issues.
Manages the storage systems connected to VMware.
Supports and manages VMware Horizon View 7.
Develops and manages Windows 7 and Windows 10 images with 3rd party applications in Horizon View.
Manages the OS/Patch Release, in addition to the Hosts patching via Update Manager Plug-in.
Configures and manages HA, DRS, SDRS, and Resource Pool clusters.
Prepares backup and recovery, along with understanding of VMware Snapshots.
Prepares and delivers the capacity and performance reports for Cluster, Hosts, Storage, VMs etc.
Manages resources such as CPU, memory, disk, and troubleshoots and resolves resource bottleneck issues.
Creates and manages PowerCLI scripts for day to day management of virtual environments.
Interacts with, and establishes working relationships with external providers in the day-to-day support of hardware installation, repairs and decommissioning.

Job duties require schedule flexibility and willingness to work evenings or weekends as required for systems-related tasks.
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position
Demonstrated English Language proficiency
A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
This title has three levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.
Preferred Qualifications Include:
Experience in the installation, configuration, and administration of components in a large VMware environment centered around best practices, to include vCenter, VMware Update Manager, vCenter Operations Manager, vCenter Orchestrator, vCloud Automation Center, vCenter Site Recovery Manager, and VMware Replication.
Hands-on experience with storage at an expert level with NetApp/Pure/Tintri storage in block and file services: FC, iSCSI and NFS
Knowledge of networking and storage protocols: NFS, CIFS, TCP/IP, Fibre Channel, Storage Area Network.
Experience and knowledge of VMWare vSphere 6 – VCA or VCP preferred
Experience with server consolidation/virtualization for HW reduction and site migrations via V2V and P2V.
Intermediate knowledge of Switching and VLANs, NIC Teaming.
Experience with installation and management of Cisco and Brocade fiber channel fabrics to support VMware and Storage.
Experience in VM template design and leveraging vCenter Operations Manager to right size, virtual servers.
Experience in backup and recovery of Virtual machines and virtual servers, including Veeam and NetApp VSC.
Knowledge and hands-on experience with vROps.
Ability to create and modify PowerCLI scripts for day to day management of virtual environments
Experience with SAN management– NetApp preferred
Experience with NSX 6.4+ a plus.
Experience with Veeam backup and recovery a plus.
