The Department of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks outstanding scientists or scientist-clinicians with an excellent research background, as demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals, grant funding, and stature appropriate for a full-time faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Successful candidates will play a role in a growing multi-disciplinary program of research on behavioral risk factors, including obesity, physical inactivity, poor quality diet, stress, and tobacco use. The Behavioral Medicine Division provides a unique, intellectually vibrant scientific home for researchers who develop, implement and evaluate behavioral interventions to promote health. Robust collaborations between the Chicago and Evanston campuses and the surrounding community support a full spectrum of translational research and implementation. Faculty hold interests in psychological, social, and neurobiological mechanisms that underlie intervention effects. They apply optimization techniques drawn from engineering and incorporate novel technologies to overcome access barriers, reduce costs, and extend the reach of behavior change interventions into health care delivery systems and the broader population. They leverage social networks, worksites, healthcare systems, and community resources to promote health. In addition to behavioral scientists and physicians, the Department of Preventive Medicine’s 65 full-time faculty include 20 biostatisticians as well as world- class experts in epidemiology, genomics, nutrition, informatics, and public health, with particular focus on the life course of chronic diseases of aging. Faculty access rich research resources including the CTSA-funded NUCATS Institute, C3 (the Chicago CTSA Consortium of Community Engagement cores), Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, PROMIS Coordinating Center, Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (fka the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago), Lurie Children’s Hospital, Prentice Women’s Hospital, and Northwestern Memorial Healthcare System.
Preference will be given to applicants who apply novel methods in obesity, eating behavior, physical activity, or other health behaviors, and who have expertise in one of the following: mHealth, social network science, MOST optimization methods, health economics, or implementation science. Candidates should have experience and interest in collaborative team science, and in working on interdisciplinary teams. The position is on the innovative Team Scientist track, promoting engagement with multiple projects and inter-disciplinary teams.
The start date is negotiable and the position will remain open until filled.
