Core is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented field production representative to join our team. The position is supervised by Core’s General Manager, who has extensive experience in mint production and has developed strong, long-standing relationships with contracted mint growers. The person hired in the position will receive close mentorship and training from the General Manager, with initial field visits done as a team to provide hands-on training on mint production methods and IPM strategies, and to provide introductions to Core’s growers. While direct experience in mint production is beneficial to this position, it is not required. Applicants must, however, come with a strong agricultural background with crop production experience, and have a strong desire to learn. Excellent communication skills, an ability to build a positive rapport with Core’s contract growers, and self-motivation are all key qualities for this position. The position requires frequent travel to growers’ operations during the production season to check product quality, monitor pests, and provide production advice. Additional areas of responsibility include maintenance of field record systems, sample prep, drone operation, research and development, customer relations, and periodic training and compliance monitoring for Core’s audit and certification programs.
Areas of Responsibility In coordination with Core’s General Manager, the Field Production Representative is responsible for the following:
Oversee field production operations planting through harvest
Monitor weed, insect, disease levels along with overall crop quality throughout the year
Assist in directing pesticide and IPM applications and strategies
Develop and maintain strong relationships with local field men and chemical/fertilizer suppliers in each growing region
Assist with new variety commercial production program
Access chemical labels and find details relating to rates, timing, weed lists, etc.
Take lead role in pre-harvest sampling and residue testing requests of all raw material
Develop and maintain a quality grower base
Assist with preparation and signing of annual production contracts with growers to adequately fulfill sales needs
As needed, maintain and develop relationship and production contracts in new growing regions
Be available as a first point of contact within Core for growers needing to obtain information or answers regarding cleaning, payments, deliveries, etc.
Visit growers and fields in person at least once a month throughout the growing season.
Develop strong lines of communication with each grower specific to their operation including key employees/family members, etc. Utilize preferred methods to keep in regular contact throughout the year
Coordinate with Core’s Director of Agriculture Compliance to provide training for growers and to perform compliance checks for Core’s audit and certification programs
Manage Core’s Agrian field recordkeeping system
Verify and record all significant production activities by grower and field
Create and record a field report and pictures into the Agrian system monthly through the growing season for each contracted production field
Ensure field-level traceability of all agricultural inputs for all Core products
Develop relationships and open dialog with supply chain managers and field agronomists
Assist with annual customer tours involving visits to growing regions, fields, growers, research projects, plots, points of interest, etc.
Manage customer field record systems if required
Investigate and provide background information when customers inquire about quality and residue issues relating to the raw product
Understand and quickly access EU and US pesticide residue tolerance websites
Identify and take lead role in managing specific customer concerns regarding residues, toxic weeds, health risks, etc.
Research and Development
Test new chemical products and rates by setting up plots, recording application data/efficacy, and testing for residue
Work with customers to improve, modify, expand current pesticide application program in order to address current field issues
Record and report R&D time and expenses
Take lead in technology application related to field production and management – Drone project, devices, tracking, etc.
Required skills and licensing
Strong agricultural/farm background, with crop production experience
Familiar with Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Mechanical/fabrication skills helpful
Strong communication skills
Ability to prioritize and organize tasks
Self- starter and able to work independently
Current Commercial Applicator’s license or Consultant’s license or ability to obtain
Flexibility in daily schedule, with frequent travel to growing regions during the production season
Willingness to cross-train to assist in plant operations and office duties
