The Sourcing Specialist is responsible for supporting the Category Manager Research in the execution of a data-driven category plan for the universitys Research-related spend categories ($200-250M per annum), which includes lab equipment & consumables, hazardous wastes DNA sequencing, animals, chemicals, dental products, research-related consulting, and several others. The Sourcing Specialist is expected to deliver measurable, quantifiable cost and/or process efficiencies using BUs established Sourcing Methodology, which includes the following stages: 1) Project Confirmation, Analysis, and Planning, 2) Strategy Development, Competitive Event, and Selection, and 3) Implementation and Monitoring. Under the direct supervision of a Category Manager, the Sourcing Specialist will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, manage, and execute on category plan initiatives that optimize the appropriate balance of cost and quality based on defined business requirements, including managing competitive bid events and negotiating business terms. This role is also responsible for building and managing internal business relationships by providing guidance and expertise on sourcing best practices, including supplier selection, industry insights, negotiation strategies and contracting. The role will work closely on communication and change management efforts associated with executed projects, in addition to developing and managing a supplier performance program within the assigned Research-related spend categories.
B.A./B.S. in Business Administration, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing or a related field, strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, the ability to manage projects, Microsoft Office, and three to five years of experience in procurement, sales or marketing preferably. SAPSRM, Ariba Sourcing and CPSM experience also preferred.
