The director, data center will provide direction, leadership and execution of the technical infrastructure supporting Salem State University’s data center operations. The director, data center will work closely with the Deputy CIO as well as other ITS Directors to ensure the technical infrastructure is in alignment and positioned to work reliably and securely for Salem State's students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
In partnership with the Deputy CIO provides technical infrastructure oversight and direction. Supports Deputy CIO in overall technical direction of Salem State University’s Data Center infrastructure
Manages vendor and service provider relationships including service level monitoring, installation requirements and fit of proposed solutions within Salem State University’s environment and vision
Establishes, designs and supports a cloud architecture that provides resources required to support Information Technology Services’ initiatives. Supports the long-term strategic goals for cloud technologies
Works with the Information security team ensuring compliance with all required software security solutions across servers and databases
Perform all tasks within center including adding and configuring, hosts, virtual machines, data stores, networks
Manages network fabric within the data center and works with the security and network teams to recommend firewall, routing and ACL configurations
Manages the data center environment, including electrical supply, power redundancy, cooling, and fire suppression
Support data recovery through backups, snapshots, and redundant storage and processing capability
Bachelor’s degree in an IT related field of study
Five to seven years of experience in systems administration, with increasing levels of responsibility
Broad technical knowledge of Enterprise-class Data Center architecture and technologies (i.e. VMware, NetApp, Nutanix, Commvault, APC)
Familiar with Best Practices in Data Center facilities design, including: HVAC, scalability, power and facility management, and monitoring
Knowledge of SQL databases; such as Oracle, MS-SQL, MySQL.
Knowledge of Operating Systems; such as Windows 2016, Windows 2012, Red Hat Linux, Ubuntu Linux
Understanding of core enterprise services; Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Firewalls
Familiarity with security frameworks (PCI, HIPAA, PII)
Master’s degree in a relevant field of study
Previous experience in a higher education setting
Microsoft, VMware, Juniper or similar certifications
