The Student and Faculty Information Services team provides campus-wide student and faculty information services for the UC San Diego community. Working with a team of systems administrators for the Student and Faculty Information Systems team. Performs moderately complex system administration tasks. Everyday tasks include installing, configuring, patching and troubleshooting Linux (application and database) and Windows servers in a virtualized environment. Assist in our migration to Amazon Web Services (AWS). Writes complex scripts, automates processes, software support, and other systems analysis and administration tasks.
Manages systems and services for a facility of moderate size.
Perform moderately complex networking tasks and interoperability assessments.
Install, configure, patch and troubleshoot Linux and Windows Servers.
Configure departmental client management server (SCCM, WSUS) and systems including client updates.
Responsible for configuring and maintaining departmental monitoring systems.
Supports the PCI network security for approximately 35 Point-of-Sales devices.
Employee must be available to work evenings and weekends.
Employee must be available to travel as required.
A Bachelor's Degree in related area with experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
Demonstrated ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner. Ability to write and update a disaster recovery plan.
Proven knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs. Understanding of applications development life cycle, agile development techniques, and best practices in applications development environments. Ability to deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) servers.
General knowledge of other areas of IT. Thorough understanding of and experience with systems-related issues and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance. Understanding of cloud services.
Proven ability to develop, test, and document Microsoft Group Policy Objects. Understanding of deployment of update packages utilizing a variety of technologies such as RHEL Package Manager, YUM, SCCM and WSUS.
Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software.
Experience with Puppet/Ansible configuration management systems.
Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) including EC2 instances, SMS Connector, Storage Gateways, S3/Glacier storage.
