The Pennsylvania State University seeks a dynamic and visionary executive to serve as its next Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (VPIT/CIO). This is an exceptional opportunity to lead IT enterprise-wide at one of the nation’s top-ranked universities.

As a member of the President’s Council, the VPIT/CIO will report to the Executive Vice President and Provost and the Senior Vice President for Finance and Business/Treasurer. The VPIT/CIO will be expected to drive innovative solutions that support the University’s strategic and operational goals. The VPIT/CIO will manage a large staff organized in the following areas: Enterprise Applications, Infrastructure, IT Modernization, User Success, Research Computing, Administrative IT, and Teaching and Learning with Technology. S/he will develop and maintain an appropriate IT organizational structure that supports the needs of the University and will be responsible for effectively and efficiently serving University stakeholders. Some of the strategic and operational leadership duties include:
Provide strategic organizational leadership, balancing needs related to centralization, shared services, federation, and customization
Facilitate policy development as needed and prioritize resource allocations
Oversee implementation of IT tools for students, faculty, staff, human resources, and management needs
Coordinate resources in staffing, purchasing, developing, and testing software as a service
Establish robust, secure, and state-of-the-art computational, analytical and data services
Identify opportunities for cost-effective IT investments across the institution
Oversee all IT services
Maximize efficiency across all IT resources
Plan, coordinate, and drive teams to maintain, transition, interface, and test new and emerging technologies
Develop and recommend IT governance practice and procedures
Partner effectively with the university’s distributed IT providers
The successful candidate will possess significant relevant experience in positions with increasing levels of responsibility, including a minimum of 5-7 years as a senior IT leader in a complex organization. A master’s level degree, ideally in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Management Information Sciences, or related discipline, is highly preferred.
