The Controller is responsible for LDJ’s overall financial plans, policies, and accounting practices. The Controller is part of the Leadership Team reporting to the President and is responsible for reporting financial information to the team and keeping the team updated on progress towards financial goals. This position directs treasury, budgeting, audit, tax, credit and accounting activities. The Controller is responsible for the conduct of its relationships with lending institutions and the financial community, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports. The position involves supervision over general accounting, property accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, and budgetary controls. The Controller will also be involved with the IT and HR functions of the organization to the extent they complement or impact the financial accounting processes.
Develop and direct the annual planning and budgeting process.
Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures; ensure all critical accounting processes are adequately documented.
Direct accounting department in preparation of all financial reports following generally accepted accounting practices.
Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the organization
Ensure internal controls are established and maintained.
Oversee (in some cases perform) general accounting functions – accounts receivable (invoicing/cash collections), accounts payable, cost accounting, fixed assets, and general ledger.
Manage all aspects of cost accounting, such as accurate BOM costing, inventory relief, and margin calculations.
Work closely with Supply Chain Manager to ensure appropriate inventory levels and margins are maintained.
Work with leadership team and sales team to develop realistic sales forecasts.
Maintain and execute monthly close processes.
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements on a GAAP basis.
Prepare frequent reports on corporation’s financial performance and communicate those reports and metrics to appropriate personnel.
Complete analysis of all variances to budget.
Forecasts short and long-term cash requirements to carry out projected growth
Ensures that all tax returns, financial reports, and registrations are filed in a timely manner.
Interact with outside CPA and Legal Counsel as necessary to ensure timely tax planning and compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate, payroll, and other applicable taxes and regulations while taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes.
Establish credibility throughout the organization and with the Board as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges
Fixed Asset Management and Analysis (ROI)
Develop and maintain an expense reporting system for all employees
Make sure that corporation has adequate liability and property insurance coverage
Oversee cash flow, bank balances and maintain lines of credit and banking relationships. Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs
Establish and maintain credit and collection procedures
Ideal Candidate will possess the following skill/qualities:
Significant knowledge of GAAP and related financial regulations.
ERP implementation experience preferred
Finance Leader in an ERP Manufacturing Environment
High level of computer and modeling skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks.
Education & Experience:
B.S. in Accounting. Master’s Preferred.
Experience in a Manufacturing company ($25M - $50M in Revenue)
Controller or CFO Experience 5+ years . CMA or CPA a plus.
