The Multi-Interdisciplinary Center for Health Informatics and the Kinesiology/Public Health Department at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor tenure-track position to teach and to conduct research in Health Informatics. We seek faculty members with outstanding qualifications who share the University's core values of high standards of excellence in innovative and collaborative research, combined with fostering an open and inclusive environment that promotes participation of underrepresented groups in research. This position is part of the newly established Multi-Interprofessional Center for Health Informatics, whose goals are to conduct research and develop top-quality informatics programs that will serve the entire university and the community. The academic appointment will be in the Kinesiology/Public Health Department.
Candidates should show evidence of exceptional research promise and are expected to contribute to building a nationally and internationally recognized research group and provide leadership in the formation of a new informatics program, including developing and teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Ideal candidates will have a broad understanding and interest in interdisciplinary studies and should demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity in education through their research, teaching, and service.
Be an integral part of the Multi-Interdisciplinary Center for Health Informatics (MICHI)
Increase the visibility and reputation of the Center and profession through research, teaching, national relationship building, collaboration, and networking
Teach and develop courses related to healthcare data analytics, consumer informatics, health information management, health information technology, and research
Develop and maintain academic courses based on industry need and accreditation requirements
Participate in marketing efforts to support the visibility and reputation of the Center
Work collaboratively with faculty and staff on courses, research, and special projects
Reports to the Executive Director and Co-Director of the Multi-Interdisciplinary Center for Health Informatics
Will contribute to and participate in fostering a culture of inclusion in support of college diversity goals
Master's degree in Health Informatics or related field and currently enrolled in a doctoral program with a completion date within six months of hire.
Five years of experience in health informatics or health information management
An active member of national and state health informatics or Health Informatics and Information Management associations and/or active in eHealth initiatives
Understanding of computer programming, e.g. Python, Java, Visual Basic
Experience with database development and administration, e.g., SQL
A strong background working with inferential statistics, machine learning, and corresponding software e.g., R, SAS, Python
Experience in research design and research methods with a demonstrated ability to publish research findings
Experience using academic technologies and be comfortable using health information technologies
A record of managing and leading projects
Ability to lead and to work cooperatively with others
Evidence of cultural competence and demonstrated success working with diverse populations is required
