The C3.ai Digital Transformation Institute (C3.ai DTI) is a new research consortium established by C3.ai, Microsoft Corporation, and led by the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign (UIUC). C3.ai DTI was created to establish the new Science of Digital Transformation of Societal Systems.
C3.ai DTI will focus research on the intersection of AI, Machine Learning, IoT, Big Data Analytics, human factors, and organizational behavior.
Specifically, the Institute will advance the development of ML algorithms, data security, and cybersecurity techniques to address and advance solutions related to predictive analytics, resilient operation under faults and cyber-attack, and assured system security. The research of C3.ai DTI will provide analysis of new business operation models, develop methods of implementing the requisite organizational change management, develop advanced methods of protecting privacy, and advance the dialog related to the ethical implications of AI. At the nexus of technology, business, behavioral sciences, ethics, and law are design-thinking issues involving mechanism design for the digital transformation of societal systems. The development and validation of algorithms and designs that can dramatically impact societal systems is the heart of the Institute research.
To this end, C3.ai DTI will institute a Research Grant Program, host Distinguished Visiting Professors & Research Scientists, sponsor Curriculum Development, develop a Data Analytics Platform, organize an annual Educational Program, and help foster an Industrial Program.
40% DevOps for C3.ai DTI:
Design, develop and operate a complex data analytics platform. Effectively leverage cloud resources, providing computing, storage, programming environments, and other tools for IoT, AI, and ML researchers. Maintain and enhance a large-scale data lake, establishing meta-data practices. Monitor and analyze usage of systems to ensure efficient and effective operations. Develop APIs for interoperation with external systems. Establish processes that encourage collaboration between researchers. Maintain security and privacy controls and configurations on infrastructure and data. Investigate and develop novel solutions and systems to further research capabilities and impact.
30% Support and Training for Researchers:
Work alongside researchers as the technical lead to aid in using C3DTI infrastructure, software tools, and other resources. Develops and documents the best practices in using complex systems to ensure that researchers are most effective. Provide training materials in multiple formats for educational opportunities. Engage with researchers in solving technical hurdles.
20% IT Direction for Institute:
Providing IT direction and expertise for the Berkeley Institute Staff. Establish the best IT practices for the needs of the Institute. Analyze business problems and provide technical solutions. Make recommendations for new systems. Maintain vendor relationships that benefit the goals of the Institute.
10% Outreach and Engagement:
Act as liaison for the rest of the campus IT community to the C3DTI project. Establish partnerships with key stakeholders in computation, storage, research IT on campus to ensure the ability to leverage campus resources as needed.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent Required experience / training.
In-depth knowledge of various areas of IT. Broad knowledge of the IT environment.
Advanced skills associated with programming design, modification, and implementation. Advanced knowledge of secure software development. Demonstrated ability to create software specifications. Fluent in at least one scripting language such as Python, Ruby, bash, etc and basic knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming.Experience with Java, Scala or C++ a plus.
Demonstrated advanced knowledge, skills and abilities associated with system problem identification and resolution. Knowledge necessary to design, set up, operate and correct malfunctions involving technology systems. Experience in incident response and digital forensics, including data collection, examination and analysis.
