ChristianaCare is currently recruiting for a Pharmacy Supervisor.
Coordinates and supervises activities of assigned pharmacy personnel, with the goal of providing efficient, timely, accurate and cost-effective pharmacy services; works under the general direction of the Director, Intravenous Admixture Services. Perform other functions as required, including the assumption of other Supervisor's or Director's duties in their absence. The Supervisor should be experienced in the processes of sterile compounding and will serve as a subject matter expert on federal regulations USP 797 and 800.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises all activities of pharmacists and technicians within the IV lab and OR settings to promote efficient and highly effective levels of service to our patients
Assures the proper maintenance and functioning of the IV cleanroom facilities and day to day operations of the IV labs at the Wilmington and Christiana facilities.
Oversees IV batching processes to support the needs of the health system
Assures the proper maintenance and functioning of IV technology in support of IV services (For example, Simplifi 797, DoseEdge, etc.)
Ensures ongoing compliance with applicable regulatory standards and best practices, including USP 797 and USP 800, State Board of Pharmacy, and federal regulations
Responsible for the department's IVAS quality assurance program, including but not limited to: personnel hand hygiene and garbing compliance, hood maintenance documentation, clean room environmental monitoring, monitoring of daily & monthly cleaning and disinfection processes, team performance (turnaround time, accuracy, etc) and staff competency
Participates in the development, review, and modification of policies and procedures relating to all IV services and in compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 regulations
Collaborates with other members of the Pharmacy department team to provide continuity of care to patients within our health system and meet the healthcare needs of our surrounding community
Collaborates with members of the pharmacy supply chain team to maximize medication availability for patient care while minimizing waste; this includes collaboration and monitoring of 503B pharmacy purchasing
Contributes to departmental planning and service coordination as a member of Pharmacy Services leadership team
Processes medication orders and dispenses medications in accordance with applicable laws, Joint Commission regulations, and departmental policies
Responsible for the performance management and evaluation process of assigned personnel
Provides ongoing development of process standards and dashboards to promote effective, accurate, and timely dispensing of new orders
Demonstrates a Culture of Responsibility (CoR) during event investigation, to include conversations with personnel and proactive identification/resolution of risky behavior
Develops and maintains positive relationships with key departmental customers on the Christiana campus to foster effective communication, problem-solving, and planning.
Represents the department on inter-departmental and system level projects/initiatives, assigned by the Director of IVAS Services/Vice President, Pharmacy Services
Participates in the selection and hiring of staff and coordinates their orientation and training in the IV lab and OR Pharmacies
Assumes staffing or other service responsibilities, as needed.
Conducts interpersonal matters with others in a cooperative and tactful manner
Completes projects in a timely manner
Manages time efficiently
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Addresses and/or reports to Director IVAS/Vice President, Pharmacy Services, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President Pharmacy Services or Director, Intravenous Admixture Services
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Doctor of Pharmacy degree (or B.S. Pharm. with equivalent/relevant experience)
Current State of Delaware pharmacist licensure or successfully attained prior to first date of employment
Minimum three years hospital pharmacy experience; working knowledge of IVAS operations, USP 797 and USP 800, federal regulations, Joint Commission standards, and Board of Pharmacy regulations preferred
Supervisory experience preferred
Knowledge of current pharmacy principles and practices
Knowledge of USP 795, 797, and 800 compounding regulations
Knowledge of federal and state laws governing pharmacy practices
Knowledge of Joint Commission requirements and standards
Knowledge of federal and state laws governing nursing practices
Knowledge of operating room, anesthesia, emergency room, nursing, surgical, intensive care and outpatient procedures as they relate to pharmacy services
Knowledge of research protocols
Some pushing, pulling, or lifting (up to 50 lbs) and manual dexterity.
