Academic and Career Advising at Pacific University seeks to inspire students to connect their experiences inside and outside the classroom to a meaningful future and empower them to actively engage in their academic and career development. The focus of this position will be on relationships, communications, marketing, and coordination related to that vision. The Community Relations Coordinator will work collaboratively with the unit administrator and staff to locate and develop job and experiential learning opportunities for students and coordinate programs that enhance the educational value of student work and field experiences.
The Community Relations Coordinator will be expected to align work with other university priorities, such as diversity, sustainability, and social justice. This is a full-time, 12-month position to start as soon as possible. This is a newly redesigned position with some evolving functions to be explored further during the hiring process. Annual salary $40-42,000.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary responsibilities include:
Provide support to employers and other community partners working with students to provide educational experiences and post-graduation opportunities to Pacific students, including:
Cultivate a welcoming and inclusive environment (in person and online) that facilitates student connections to and positive experiences with employers and student supervisors (of work study, internships, practica, civic engagement, and other community-based learning)
Conduct outreach and provide support to potential employers to expand off-campus job opportunities for currently enrolled students regardless of Federal Work Study eligibility
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with employers and student supervisors
Assist employers and student supervisors with recruitment efforts
Act as a liaison between campus and community employers and supervisors
Manage contact, recruiting, and data systems, as well as job search software (e.g. Handshake)
Represent the office to the public, employers, and university partners
Coordinate programs that provide job and experiential learning opportunities for students and enhance the educational value of student work and field experiences, including:
Job Location & Development Program
Administer job search software (e.g. Handshake) and related employer databases and office systems
Create and maintain JLD program materials
Track and report data for and act in compliance with federal Job Location & Development Program
Pacific GROW – Guided Reflection On Work
Provide support and programming to supervisors on and off campus with respect to maximizing student learning and development from off-campus employment, work study, internships, practica, etc.
Community Service Work Study
Coordinate Community Service Work Study supervisor recruitment, application process, and support HRIS onboarding/troubleshooting in collaboration with university Human Resources office
Advantage Program Speaker Series
Assist Advantage faculty and staff with arranging speakers and other campus visitors related to Advantage courses and programs
Events & Communications
Oversee events and communications, including:
Host and coordinate campus visits by community stakeholders (such as recruiting events)
Collaborate with staff and other stakeholders to coordinate planning and implementation of programs (such as Work & Service Fairs), including tasks such as supervising student staff during events, reserving rooms, and ordering catering
Provide marketing and publicity for programs and events
Develop best practices for ensuring communications effectively reach all relevant stakeholders, with an emphasis on integrating communications into existing Pacific platforms (e.g. Handshake, digital signage, master calendar)
Provide logistical and coordinating support for students and community stakeholders planning events or programs related to advising and career planning.
The Community Relations Coordinator will have additional responsibilities in the operation and promotion of the unit to complement the work of other staff and continue to advance advising, career planning, and experiential learning at Pacific. In particular, the person in this position may:
Supervise student workers or interns
Strive to ensure that community relations, programs, and communications support the goals of diversity, equity, inclusion, sustainability, and community responsibility embedded in the university mission
Update website and create and maintain print and digital materials and office systems
Provide administrative support as needed to the unit staff and team efforts
Attend staff meetings, participate in professional development activities, and collaborate with co-workers as a proactive team member
Maintain a working knowledge of local and national employment market trends and their actual and potential impact on the hiring of college students and graduates.
Perform other related duties as assigned
The Community Relations Coordinator will perform duties independently and as a member of the team with guidance and supervision from the unit administrator. The position entails supporting existing and new programs. Decisions are made within general university policy constraints but also may require independent decision making. Mistakes/errors may result in poor relations with campus or community constituents, negative impact on student success or retention, or decreased ability for the unit to fulfill its mission, all of which can have negative financial implications for the university.
This position does not supervise any full-time, permanent staff, but may involve supervising or delegating tasks to student workers, interns, and/or co-workers assisting with events.
