Work Hours/Shift: PRN
You Will Be Responsible For: Â·Performs analytical activities related to specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special histologic staining, frozen sectioning, cover slipping and handling of irreplaceable tissue, surgical and body fluid specimens Â·May prepare specimens utilized for research requests Â·Ensures special stains are performed on tissues, as needed Â·May perform special staining, maintaining solutions and documents quality control Â·Follows established procedures to collect and process biological specimens for analysis Â·May register, order, and accession pathology specimens into computer systems Â·Operates and maintains equipment used to embed, section, stain, and coverslip specimens Â·Adheres to safety requirements and appropriately handles and disposes chemicals Â·Follows appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling. Demonstrates understanding and adheres to Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. Employee job duties may include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment
Â·May assist in procedural areas with specimen collection such as Fine Needle Aspirations Â·May assist with preparation of Cytology specimens Â·Performs other duties as assigned
What will you need:
Â· High school degree or equivalent Histotechnician (HT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent, as required by respective state Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Associateâ™s degree or Technical degree in a related field preferred
One year of technical experience preferred
Processes specimens for pathologic diagnosis, tissue fixation, processing, preparing and staining slides for microscopic examination by the pathologist.
