Position Summary and ResponsibilitiesAdminister and manage the financial business affairs of the multiple units within the Computing and Information Services (CIS) Department. Responsibilities will include facilitation and management of all financial resources, contracts, and grants and/or receipt generated areas.
This position is designed to address a number of key needs:
CIS funding sources often have more complex accounting considerations
CIS handles a significant number of business transactions each fiscal year
CIS operates two revenue generating units in the ID Card Office and the Computer Store that represent considerable opportunity and significant risk for the College
CIS routinely handles multi-year projects that would benefit from greater budgetary and accounting expertise to effectively plan for and administer
CIS manages grant funding with associated administration and reporting requirements
The CIS Business Manager will perform a range of financial and business related duties associated with specialized areas such as accounting, budgeting, auditing, and/or grants administration. The Business Manager will perform or have oversight of all CIS purchasing, accounts reconciliation including the ID Card Office and Computer Store, maintenance and reporting of financial data, financial projections, and cash/receipts management. Functions assigned may also include personnel administration, inventory control, facilities coordination and planning, information technology assessment and planning, and other closely related work.
The Business Manager reports to the Vice President for Computing & Information Services and Chief Information Officer (CIO). This position is part-time, approximately 26 hours/week, for the full calendar year, and is eligible for Vassar's benefits for Administrators.
Qualifications A Bachelor's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience are required. A Master of Business Administration (MBA), or other related graduate degrees are preferred. Management experience would be a significant plus. Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and Banner or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are required. Competencies critical to success are proven abilities to: manage highly complex situations and relationships, meet deadlines, think strategically and provide leadership; communicate interpersonally and organizationally, and solve problems creatively.
